Dark. An overwhelming sense of nothing but dark around him. Cooped up in a crate in the back end of a large truck, all the seal could see, feel, or hear was darkness. The crate was too small as well- the closeness pressing in on his lithe form, so the Guadalupe sea had wound flexibly into a little ball, nudging his considerable bulk to one corner. Where was he going now? A week or so of tests, humans, things being done to the half-mangled flipper on his left side. Needless to say the wild creature was sick and tired of proddings and pokings. Uttering a strange whimpering bark of annoyance at yet another trip to yet another white-coated human, the seal was surprised to find the lurching truck had slowed to a halt. The roar of the engine had given way to the roar of the sea, a rushing and calming noise that caused a drowsy sheen to glint within the brutes eyes. Or was that the antibiotics? He remembered a pricking in his flipper from before, something being injected, probably to stop any infections in the sewed-up wound. Of course he had no real knowledge of this. No sea critter spoke human, after all. Preposterous.
He had shaken the homesick gleam out of those coal-colored eyes long before- and now he had shaken out the tiredness. He wasn't sleepy, excited. The sea was so near to him, and although all he felt still was darkness, he could hear the roar of the great water, and smell the twinge of salt in the little air that reached through the porous wood. A few moments went by before the murmuring voices of the fleshy ones came near. They were loud creatures, but not a single voice could match the roar of the sea he knew was so close at hand. Slamming his body against the wooden sides of the crate, the fur seal twitched his whiskers and set into a howling matched only by a creature in pain. "Let me out of here, you monkeys. Two legged rapscallions, open this fritzing crate before I break it from the inside!" His growls and barks were lost on the humans ears, as no human understood the language of the sea as no creature understood their own 'Eng-lish.' He heard a laugh and snarled as any a seal could- baring his teeth at the dark side of the crate. They dared to laugh at him? He launched himself back at the side, throwing his full weight into the lurch. At that moment the trucks tailgate had been unlatched, and out flew the crate containing the great seal. A roar of laughter followed his dazed recovery, and though the box was still intact, it was flipped and the Guadalupe seal found himself on his back. Struggling to flip over in the confined area set up another bark of rage. "Just let me out you fritzing squid ink-bags! Shark-headed monsters, put me back into the sea!" It was all in vain, they didn't understand. But the seals wish of escape would soon be close at hand.
A woman walked circles around the crate, making notes on a clipboard and occasionally readjusting her white coat. A marine biologist with an interest in seals, the woman had been particularly happy to stitch up the massive creature who had snagged himself in fishing line and tumbled about with it constricting his 'fin'. She had watched him in the makeshift 'cove' they had prepared for his rehabilitation, had watched and waited and observed him for days on end. The crated seal remembered her scent, and let out a faint questioning 'Ourrr?' as to whether she would let him out. now the lady was no critter of the sea, but she seemed to understand, as moments after she called for the hefty truck driver to nudge the crate out onto the beach and crowbar the front open. He did it quickly, as was best for his health, yelping and dashing back the second the wood was split. The male seal charged forward, heading for the water he so desperately craved. He didn't look back, merely sent out a triumphant bark over his shoulder. "So long white coats. Neptune is out of here!" Flippers hit ocean and he was off, swirling acrobatically in the bright blue water. It was good to be back to his kingdom, now where were all his subjects?

Calypso flipped and cut through the water like a bullet. Zooming through the waves. Sweet, sweet freedom. She remembered how only a few hours ago she'd been let go by those strange humans. The real ocean water felt good on her skin as she glided through the current. This was a whole new world for her.
Zipping through at an incredible speed, she thought she spotted a light blue silhouette of a...seal? Cally predicted he had just been let go, the whirring of a human boat filled the sea when she concentrated on the sound. But it faded away, swimming closer, she wondered what this animal was up to.
Calypso thrived on company. Well, sometimes. And now that the chance was near, she pounced on the offer. Without a word, the shape becam clearer. Yes, definetly a seal. He looked just as glad to have his freedom back as she had when she was let go from the boat.
"What are you up to?" she asked curiously once she was near. A noticeable scar marred the creature's body. She wondered how he had gotten it. Comfortable with her question, she eyed the injury, suspicious. She didn't know if the seal was aggresive yet, although she probably could out-swim him if necessary. Well, she could never be too sure.

/Ah, here come the subjects./ thought the seal in amusement twisting to stare curiously at the beast before him. A dolphin. Hmm. Better than a shark for company, at least. Swimming gleefully in a ring around the other mammal, Neptune grinned, laughed, and finally managed to speak. What had she said? What was he up to? "Swimming, twisting... performing?" It came out more of a question than an answer, and the usually arrogant seal shrugged sheepishly. "I haven't seen the ocean in weeks." Waving his left flipper, as if the appearance of the limb would be enough to explain. He thought it would, judging by the scar the tangled wiring had made on his sensitive skin.
Normally, Neptune was a pompous little brute, precocious and snooty toward most non-seals, but today was a good day. After all, he had regained his freedom and reclaimed his abode, right? The sea was his, and he was simply happy to be back in it. He could resume bad habits later. For now his tongue was itching to speak to someone who spoke his native tongue- that of the ocean.
"What are you up to? Get released too?" He glanced her over as he spun circles, looking for a scar. If she had been captured then let go too, did that mean she had been hurt as well? Certainly not by a hook, thought the seal bitterly. she seemed to have not a mark on her that his eyes could see. He kept propelling himself in circles, swirling and twirling, sculpting the water beneath his fins. He seemed to go slower on the left. /Gotta correct that./

Calypso nodded. Well, as much as a dolphin could nod, that is. "I was released a short while ago" she informed with a friendly tone of voice. This seal didn't seem agressive, she wondered what had caused his scar.
She let the flow of the water move her up and down. It felt good to just float for now. It took up almost no effort, a feeling of calm swept over her. A strange feeling to be experiencing in front of this seal. He was a stranger after all.
(Need more muse, but this is all I have for now)

Arrow spied the two creatures from his hiding place behind the coral. He saw a red sea star crawl out from behind a rock. He recognized the dolphin as Calypso, but the seal he did not know. Slowly, he swam out to confront the unfamiliar seal. He glanced at Calypso, calmly floating in the water. He nodded in silent greeting to her. Then he too let himself relax and float. He had a strong urge to barge past the seal and surf the current, but that would be rude. "Hello. I go by the name of Arrow. Please excuse me for eavesdropping on your little conversation. I'm new here as well, you see, and people can't be trusted, if you know what I mean. But you seem friendly." He chuckled silently. "Everyone here has been dumped by the humans, I presume. Well, it is a beautiful abyss. "What have you been up too lately?"
