++ Kailani ++
{{Basics}} Age: 12 Gender: Female Animal: Whale Species: Orca Sexual Orientation: Straight Alliance: Free-Roamer Requested Rank: N/A
{{Appearance}}
Build: Slim, long, athletic Appearance: Kailani has a long and slim body. She is still young and still growing. She has a nicely rounded head with a long rostrum. Her eye patches have a few notches at the front and evenly shape to an obtuse triangle shape (the edges of her eye patches are rounded, not pointy like a triangle). Kailani's eyes are a dark blue color with a tint of yellow towards the center, wrapping around the pupil. Her saddle patch dips down about five inches from her dorsal fin; it is a dark gray color under the surface, but above the surface it’s lighter. Her dorsal fin stands at nearly four feet and wobbles slightly when she swims or jumps at high speeds. Her flukes are a classic shape and are still in perfect condition (shape wise; she does have a few rake marks on them). Scars: Five scars on the right side of her dorsal fin; three scars on top part of her flukes; large scar across her left eye patch; several small scars on her pectoral flippers. Because she received these scars at a young age, the skin is no longer red or flesh and they blend in with her skin and are only noticeable when she is viewed at a close range.
{{Personality}}
Positive traits: Sensitive to the feelings of others, knows how to take care of others, curious, playful, intelligent, enjoys trying new things (such as learning new behaviors), a big flirt, loveable Negative traits: overly dominant at times, quiet, trying new things Likes/Hobbies: enjoyed performing the shows at her oceanarium, hunting birds Dislikes: humans in boats, Peta, new rake marks, not remembering much about her family Fears: Not finding a pod of her same species that will accept her, becoming lost, losing another family Overall Personality: Kailani has always been a curious orca. She loves investigating and learning new things. She makes sure she keeps her interest in what is going on and how to solve any issues. Since she was born to be the next matriarch of her pod, dominance runs through her blood. This side of her is rarely seen, unless she completely disagrees with something, sees something that is wrong, or when something does not meet her expectations. When she disagrees, she controls the whole subject matter; she likes it when things are done and solved her way so a conflict similar to what happened would never happen again. Kailani is very motherly; not just in terms of being a mother and enjoying young orcas, but by being protective. If anything is in harm’s way of another orca, she puts herself where she can shield them from danger. She makes sure her family is safe at all times at that nothing happens to them. She does whatever she can to support others and keeps things orderly. She puts the needs of others before her own. Kailani is a very good listener. She will always listen and be there for others in hard times and try her best to give good advice. She tries to keep everyone’s spirits up.
{{History}} Family: Father|Blackney|Lost at Sea ; Mother|Ohana|Lost at Sea ; Sister|Maliki|Held in Captivity History: Kailani was born in the Pacific Northwest to Blackney and Ohana. She was born into a pod of nearly forty orcas and was in line to be the next matriarch of the pod. How could life be any better? As a young orca, Kailani was very interested in her family lifestyle and her surroundings. She was known as a young explorer; she often left her mother’s side and investigated anything interesting that caught her eye. Besides spending her free time, exploring the islands, as a young one, she was also trained by her grandmother, the matriarch of the pod; she learned how to take control of situations, support her family, know what is right from wrong, and show everyone who was boss. It was an interesting experience for the young orca. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. At the age of two, Kailani’s pod was trapped in a small cove. Large boats hovered the water’s surface, and long nets draped across the cove’s opening. Half of Kailani’s pod was either taken into captivity or was killed on the scene. The pod squawked and cried together, not knowing what was exactly going on, or what to do. Water flew, and blood spread like wild fire through the cove. Kailani watched in disbelief as spears and more nets were thrown into the water. Blackney and Ohana were released from the nets as well as her grandmother. Kailani and her sister were left with the dying pod, and were both taken into captivity; although, they never saw each other after that day. Kailani spent countless hours in a sling and a small box filled with icy water. She vocalized loudly and tried moving her small, bruised, flukes. Not a single voice was returned to the calf. Kailani would not be returning to the wild, at least not for several years. She never felt so terrible before. Her dorsal fin received five new rake marks, as well as a few on her flippers and flukes. Kailani’s left eye patch received a large scar from the sharp spears that were thrown into the murky and chaotic water. Her head throbbed with each breath she took. The young female was sold to an oceanarium, and was housed with four other orcas. The oldest female orca took Kailani in as her own calf and tried her best to raise her, like how she had with her own calves. As terrible as she felt the day she was captured, she received excellent treatment from the two-legged’s, humans. She was worried about this odd form of life touching her, but she felt better within a few days with their help. Humans began training her as well. Although Kailani didn’t like humans at first, because of what they had done to her family, she warmed up to them and began to love every minute she spent with them. By eight years old, she learned every behavior, and easily picked up on any new behaviors. Life was perfect again. She had two families. One orca and one human. Kailani later found out, once more, that not all humans are nice. Disaster struck her again when she found out the oceanarium was sold to a protest group that fights to take animals out of captivity. The last year of her time in captivity upset her the most. The new trainers that took care of her and her family with such, treated them with strong cruelty. What had happened to the other trainers, the ones who actually loved her? It was time for her to go home, time for her to remember what humans actually did to her first family.
